Lalalala

Hello from Costa Rica. Because of Honduran laws I had to leave the country again for a new visa. (So since I'm here, I did take advantage of the oppurtunity to go the the beach with the Horsts today.)

I believe I should give an update on how the futbol game went last Sunday. It was indeed a cultural experience, complete with lots of yelling, throwing beer, and general pandemonium. I want to make sure you know that I was not the one throwing beer or creating pandemonium (I may have yelled a little though..but hey, Olimpia was playing, and won).

English classes are going okay. We are already nearing the end of the second marking period, which means we are about half way through the school year already.

Here's a pic from our walk up the mountain last week. The girls were in a house giving clothing , while I stood outside and tried to take cover from the rain under a leaf--it worked okay.

Mice, Mountains and Movies

A Poem (or something),
by Andrea Zimmerman

There once was a mouse,
that went into my house,
it hid in the kitchen,
and I was a scared chicken.
Two days and two mouse traps later,
that mouse is running freer then ever.

So, I'm not a poet, and I know it. Life has had some fun/interesting/unpleasant/tiring/crazy etc. things. The past week and next two weeks I'm sharing the house with two college age girls from Texas. That's been fun, especially when I was in the kitchen sweeping and they point out that there's a mouse running right by me...some screams and jumps on chairs later, I call up one of the guys to kill the mouse. Well, he comes, looks for the mouse, doesn't find it and leaves (I don't think he was too concerned about it, unlike those of us who had to sleep in the house). Over the next two days the mouse continues to reappear, despite two traps we have strategically placed. Anyways, hopefully we will catch it before it has ratoncitos.

Last night the young adults came over to hang out, and we watched a really good movie, "The Climb". Its an entertaining movie with a really good, relavent message. This morning I headed up the mountain with the oldest girls Sunday school class and some of the adults here. We went to visit some poorer families, and give out extra clothing, and some of the girls own clothing as well. It was really neat to see the girls sharing their clothing, and it was also a good workout hiking up the mountain.

Tomorrow after teaching Sunday School in the morning, I anticipate going with some friends to the championship soccer between Olimpia and Real Espana (two Honduran teams). I've heard its quite a cultural experience. We shall see how it is...hopefully I don't get too much food and Cocacola thrown on my head.

Life

Well, I wouldn't want to falsely get your hopes up so I shall begin by telling you that I'm not writing to tell you about any super exciting events...
Its Monday...the beginning of another week, and we are already almost half way through the second marking period of the school year. Lesson planning has become a bit easier, part in thanks to an Oxford teacher's book I received in the mail about a week ago, and I believe mostly in thanks to the prayers by people like you. I sat down for a few hours on Saturday and was able to do more lesson planning than I usually do on a weekend. My sixth graders are reviewing and learning more about prepositions, and till the end of the week we should be using that to talk about how to get around town....hmm...maybe we could even take a walk around town...if they are well-behaved.

On Friday I was able to go to the colegio- high school- with a bunch of the kids to watch the mother's day program, then I was invited by one of the girls from the finca to stay on her behalf for refreshments. I'm definitely not a mother, but I was happy to go to her classroom with her since her mother could not be there.

Well, thats if for now...have a great day. Peace!

misinformed...

I must correct some information from my most recent post. I originally thought that my room had been invaded by flying ants, then I was told that they were termites....and now I'm told that they are indeed ants. Even if they are ants and not termites- there are enough of them that they could probably carry my bed off in the night and I would still have a rude awakening.

Peace.

Thunderstorms, parties and termites

The past two days we have had rain, thunderstorms to be more precise (yes, and it rains in my room as well...hopefully one of the older guys will be patching up in the next few days). The past week I've had to share my room with a horde of termites...which I have yet to figure out what they are feasting on- whether it be my desk, the beams of the roof, or my bed...which hopefully it is not the latter, I wouldn't want to be rudely awakened some night when they finally finish the bed off and I find myself on the floor.

As for parties, till the end of this week I think I will be all partied out. As a reward for my English classes good behavior each class was able to earn a party at my house. This week all four classes have reached that goal, and so I've been busy making cookies; chopping peppers, tomatoes and onions for chismol. Also, one of the older girls is celebrating her birthday this week, so I will be making a cake and we will be celebrating this weekend. All the work that is involved though is worth it though when I see how excited are to have a party. The following pics are from the two parties I had today.

Thanks for your prayers, especially concerning lesson planning. The past two weeks has been easier to plan lessons...I'm actually enjoying it some of the time. :-) Peace.

The Drama

And now for your viewing pleasure...Here is a short video clip highlighting one of the dramas that we did for the anniversary (it was actually the 4th time we've performed it for the kids). The part in the video clip is that last segment of the drama. The previous segments of the drama are the same lines, only performed normal, slowly, and very quickly.
(sorry about the shaking)

(be sure to check out the blog below that I also posted today)

40th year anniversary of the Finca

This past week was a flurry of activity here at the Finca as everyone was preparing for the anniversary celebration of God's faithfulness to the Finca for the past forty years..

Below are a few pics from Saturday night.

I've been unsuccessfully trying to upload a short video clip of one of the dramas that we did on Saturday. I'll hopefully post it soon...till then...peace.
